Message from the Head

The Guidance Counseling and Testing Department provides activities that are designed to answer the needs of the learners in developing themselves in all aspects of life. It also aids them in their adjustment and leads them to responsible self-direction in solving problems accompanying growth to Christian maturity. The guidance program serves as supportive functions in the educational process. The office directs and controls activities to help each individual develop to his fullest potential

Objectives

The Guidance Counseling and Testing Department assists in carrying out the responsibility of the school for the proper formation of the learner who is forming himself socially, morally, vocationally, emotionally, and mentally. It helps in recording, and in making available the information about each learner in order to get an insight into their personality. Specifically, it helps the learners understand their potentials, interests, as well as their weaknesses to have better relationships with people around them and to develop the necessary life skills.

In accordance with the school’s Vision Statement, the Guidance Counseling and Testing Department envisions to continuously provide quality services geared towards the empowerment of learners’ values and potentials thus, fostering an environment where learners can effectively cope with life’s demands through a deeper understanding of themselves and others.

Angelicum College Guidance Counseling and Testing Department aims to utilize quality Guidance Services designed and implemented to foster learning of essential life skills in facing the challenges brought about by the inevitable changes in the learners’ environment.

1. COUNSELING

Policy: ¯r¶¹Íø shall ensure to provide assistance and counseling services to learners and aims to establish a helping relationship between the learners and the school counselors/ associates.

Purpose/Objective: The counseling services aim to help students resolve personal day-to-day difficulties and acquire the attitudes, abilities, and knowledge that will enable them to take full advantage of the experiences to be successful

2. INFORMATION/ ORIENTATION

Policy : As part of the information Service of the department, Orientation is being sponsored to cater the needs of learners, parents and learning facilitators as well. It is designed to make available guidance-related information which the learners, parents and learning facilitators need to know.

Likewise, the Homeroom Guidance Program is under the Information Service of the department. The school has an existing Homeroom Guidance Program where class moderators facilitate activities to all their moderatorship classes on a given schedule as approved by the Academics. These activities are based on modules provided by the Department of Education. Orientations are conducted by the school counselors/ associates for all Moderators at the start of the Academic Year. Purpose/ Objectives: The Information/ Orientation service aims to support and participate in the orientation activities of the school for all learners, parents and learning facilitators with focus on guidance-related information specifically the different guidance services and programs.

3. INDIVIDUAL INVENTORY

Policy: The Guidance Counseling and Testing Department shall meet the needs of all learners through the updated individual inventory records that contain the profile of the learners as well as other relevant information such as test results and interview records.

Purpose/Objective: The Individual Inventory service is a systematic way of gathering facts about the learners to better understand their needs and efficiently satisfy the learner’s requirements.

Request for Certificate of Good Moral Character: Learners who are graduating or transferring to another school may request for a Certificate of Good Moral Character (GMC). Such request shall be conducted as follows:

4. ADMISSIONS

Policy: The Guidance Counseling and Testing Department collaborates with the Registrar’s Office, the Academics through the Office of the Team Principal for the Basic Education and Program Chairs for the Higher Education Department and the Finance Department in processing applications for admission in all levels.

Purpose/Objective: The ¯r¶¹Íøs service aims to efficiently assess the learner-applicants’ academic potential through submitted requirements as basis for admission to the school.

5. FOLLOW UP

Policy: Guidance Counseling and Testing Department conducts the follow-up service to learners who have undergone counseling sessions to monitor their growth and development. This service is also concerned with what happens to students after they have left the school.

Purpose/ Objective: The follow-up service aims to determine the needs of the counselee(s) after a series of working/helping processes. This service aims to learn where former students transferred, or where graduates are currently working and how they are doing in their jobs as well as the percentages of those who pursue further education.



GUIDANCE PROGRAMS:

1. CAREER/ PLACEMENT

Policy: It is the policy of the College through the Guidance Counseling and Testing Department to conduct vocation and career activities that promote acquisition of skills and knowledge to all learners to assist them in exploring all career options and in making wise career choices.

Purpose/Objective: This program aims to assist learners in choosing the right career and school for their further studies.

2. PSYCHO-SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Policy: The Psycho-social Development Program of the department is provided to all learners and facilitated by the respective school counselors/ associates. Group Guidance Modules for every activity under this program are annually prepared based on the emerging needs of the student population. Group Guidance Program assists learners meet their psychological needs for the total development of their social ability, spiritual values and emotional needs.

Purpose/ Objectives: Group Guidance activities are 45 minutes to 1-hour activities that aim to promote values and skills among learners/ students that will help them maximize their full potential and become productive members of the society. The Group Guidance program aims to promote communication, friendship and brotherhood among learners. It is designed to equip learners with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to become effective facilitators, thus serving as the support arm of the department to the community.

3. INTERNSHIP

The Guidance Counseling and Testing Department of ¯r¶¹Íø accepts internships to college students who are pursuing a degree in Psychology to learn on rendering of the different services of the Guidance Department aligned with the Educational Setting in their course.

OBJECTIVES OF THE GUIDANCE OFFICE INTERNSHIP:

  1. To give immersion opportunities to students who would like to explore the educational setting of Psychology as a working environment.
  2. To provide ¯r¶¹Íø Angelicum Guidance Office with the assistance of qualified students specializing in the Psychology field.
  3. To provide students exposure to actual and practical work and for the institution to recruit potential talent.
4. GUIDANCE CIRCLE

Policy: The College, through the Guidance Counseling and Testing Department shall provide special programs which include the Guidance Circle that molds learners to become peer counselors to their classmates and friends. This Program will include activities for the Leadership Training/ Academy that is spearheaded by the department.

Purpose/Objective: The Guidance Circle aims to provide training and experiences to interested learners who may give assistance and support to their peers and classmates who may be experiencing difficulties.

5. TESTING

Policy: ¯r¶¹Íø ensures to assess the learner’s ability, readiness, intelligence, aptitude, interest, achievements and motivations through the standardized tests to appraise individual and group needs.

Purpose/Objective: The testing service aims to effectively assess the learner’s strengths and weaknesses as well as the individual and group needs to appropriately determine activities that shall assist the learners in their total development

6. RESEARCH AND EVALUATION

Policy: It is the policy of the College through the Guidance Counseling and Testing Department to conduct research and evaluation to identify the worth of the guidance program in meeting the needs of the Learners.

Purpose/Objective: Research aims to obtain feedback from the learners, parents and other members of the ¯r¶¹Íø Angelicum community regarding the effectiveness of the guidance service and evaluation of the guidance activities in meeting the needs of the learners and to improve the services rendered.
